TOLEDO, Ohio (Oct. 25, 2025) — In recognition of National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, the City of Toledo Department of Housing and Community Development hosted the Keys to Living Lead Safe event on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2025, at the Main Library downtown.
The event was presented in partnership with the Lead Resource Center, The Fair Housing Center, Toledo Lead Poisoning Prevention Coalition, Toledo-Lucas County Health Department, and Junction Coalition.
Landlords, property managers, lead inspectors, and tenants gathered to learn practical steps to reduce lead hazards and ensure compliance with Toledo’s Lead Safe Ordinance. Attendees participated in interactive sessions on lead-safe cleaning, tenant rights and responsibilities, and the city’s certification process.
As part of the event, 50 lead-safe cleaning supply kits were distributed to participants to help them maintain healthier homes and reduce lead dust exposure.
“Preventing lead poisoning starts with awareness and action,” said Monica Smith, Lead Safe Coordinator for the City of Toledo. “Events like this bring our community together and remind us that keeping Toledo’s homes lead-safe is a shared responsibility.”
The Keys to Living Lead Safe event served as a reminder that lead poisoning is 100% preventable and that education, collaboration, and community involvement are key to protecting Toledo’s children and families.
